Giants predicted to make blockbuster trade for $185 million two-time Cy Young winner, would replace Justin Verlander | Sporting News

The San Francisco Giants made some big moves for their offense last season when they signed Willy Adames in the offseason and traded for Rafael Devers in June. Now, it’s time for them to focus on getting a star pitcher.

With Justin Verlander leaving, the Giants have an open spot in their rotation. Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that two-time Cy Young Winner Jacob deGrom would be the perfect upgrade to fill that hole.

“Yet again, we should expect the San Francisco Giants to lurk in the shadows for most available stars. Buster Posey made one of the most shocking blockbuster trades in recent history last season when he added Rafael Devers for pennies on the dollar. deGrom could arrival at a similar asset discount, if not a financial discount. The Giants have two excellent rotation headliners in Logan Webb and Robbie Ray, but in the cutthroat NL West, depth is just as important (if not more so) than top-line talent. deGrom can help flesh things out and establish San Francisco as a bonafide threat in the division, and the NL as a whole,” Kline wrote.

This past season, deGrom posted a 12-8 record, a 2.97 ERA, 185 Ks, and a 0.921 WHIP over 172 innings pitched. He would instantly become the ace of the Giants, elevating their pitching staff to a whole new level.

Combining deGrom, Logan Webb, and Robbie Ray gives the Giants one of the best front-ends to a rotation in the National League. And when they share a division with the Los Angeles Dodgers, they need all the help they can get.

Hopefully,  the Giants start talks with the Texas Rangers and find a way to bring deGrom to San Francisco.
